Press Statement Tom Casey, Deputy Spokesman Washington, DC June 23, 2008
Central African Republic Global Peace AgreementThe United States congratulates President of the Central African Republic François Bozizé, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations François Fall, and the signatory parties to the Inter-Central African Global Peace Agreement signed on June 21 in Libreville, Gabon, under the auspices of President of Gabon El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba. This important step paves the way for an inclusive political dialogue toward peace and stability in the region. We call on all non-signatory parties to end the violence, lay down their weapons, and sign the Global Peace Agreement as soon as possible. This would contribute to the stability of the Central African Republic as well as the region.
