Chile, Croatia, Iceland, Madagascar, Norway, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, and Turkmenistan Endorse the U.S.-Russia-led Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism Partners to Meet in Kazakhstan in June

The United States and Russia welcome the decisions of the Governments of Chile, Croatia, Iceland, Madagascar, Norway, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, and Turkmenistan to become partner nations of the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (Global Initiative).

The Global Initiative is a joint initiative launched by U.S. President George W. Bush and Russian President Putin that expands partnership capacity to combat the global threat of nuclear terrorism. At the most recent meeting of the Global Initiative in Ankara, Turkey, on February 12-13, 2007, partner nations emphasized the importance of increasing partnership and participation by nations committed to combating nuclear terrorism.

Partner nations will meet again in Kazakhstan, June 11-12, 2007 to review the progress of Global Initiative activities, to address gaps in implementation, and to welcome all new partner nations including Chile, Croatia, Iceland, Madagascar, Norway, Republic of Korea, Switzerland and Turkmenistan.
