Service Programs
1. Employment Core Services for Low-Income Persons: Services
include
- 1) outreach
and intake,
- 2) assessment and service planning,
- 3) employment preparation,
and
- 4) job acquisition and maintenance.
These services are provided on the
islands of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai and Oahu by the following agencies:
- Island of Hawaii
- Maui
- Oahu
2. Employment Core Services for Immigrants: Services include
- 1) outreach and
intake,
- 2) assessment and service planning,
- 3) employment preparation,
- 4) job search, acquisition and maintenance, and
- 5) family support.
These services
are provided on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai and Oahu by the following
agencies:
- Island of Hawaii
- Maui
- Kauai
- Oahu
3. Employment Core Services for Refugees: Services include
- 1) outreach and
intake,
- 2) assessment and service planning,
- 3) stabilization and employment
preparation, and
- 4) job search, acquisition and maintenance.
These services
are provided on the island of Oahu by the following agency:
4. Employment Creation for Low-Income Persons, Immigrants and Refugees: Services
include
- 1) self-employment assistance, and
- 2) job creation through community-based
enterprise development.
These services are provided on the islands of Hawaii,
Maui and Oahu by the following agencies:
5. Child Care Services for Head Start Parents: Services include child care
services at Head Start center-based programs for extended hours of care, from
a part-day to a full working day schedule, throughout the school year. These
services are provided on the islands of Hawaii, Mokokai, Kauai and Oahu by
the following agencies:
- Island of Hawaii
- Molokai
- Kauai
- Oahu
6. Transportation Services for Low-Income Persons: Supports transportation
programs for low-income persons, including the working poor, the elderly, the
disabled, youth and children in rural communities to provide access to education,
health care, legal assistance, banks, post offices, markets, social and employment
opportunities, and other basic services. These services are provided in the
counties of Hawaii and Maui by the following agencies:
- Island of Hawaii
- Island of Maui
7. Civil Legal Services for Low-Income Persons: Services include
- 1) outreach,
screening, referral, and intake,
- 2) case assessment,
- 3) legal advice, legal
advocacy, and legal representation, to low-income persons with legal problems
in housing, public assistance, health, consumer transactions, employment, taxes,
family matters and other civil matters.
These services are provided statewide
on the islands of Hawaii, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kauai, and Oahu by the following
agency:
8. Legal Services for Immigrants: Services include
- 1) outreach, screening,
referral, and intake,
- 2) case assessment,
- 3) community education, and
- 4) legal
advice, advocacy, and legal representation, to immigrants with legal problems
in immigration law, discrimination against immigrants, or public assistance.
These services are provided statewide to immigrants on the islands of Hawaii,
Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kauai, and Oahu by the following agency:
9. Youth Services for Immigrants: Services include
- 1) collaboration with schools
and school system,
- 2) outreach, screening, intake and assessment,
- 3) service
planning,
- 4) bilingual assistance with communication and acculturation, study
and social skills, support systems and networks, problem solving,
- 5) involvement
in community services, and
- 6) assisting older youth with employment preparation.
Services are provided in the Department of Education's Honolulu school district
in the City and County of Honolulu by the following agency:
10. Food Collection and Distribution Services for Low-Income
Persons: Services
include
- 1) collection and distribution of donated food and basic grocery items
through food banks and other organizations,
- 2) monitoring and
- 3) technical
assistance.
Food is provided statewide to organizations on the islands of Hawaii,
Maui, Kauai and Oahu by the following agency:
11. Community Food and Nutrition Program: Services include
- 1) identifying
food resources,
- 2) developing and distributing a directory of food resources,
- 3) convening county-wide meetings of food assistance organizations,
- 4) providing
nutrition assistance to nutritionally at-risk low-income persons and families,
and
- 5) conducting educational workshops for low-income persons on nutrition.
Services are currently provided in the county of Hawaii by the following agency:
12. Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program: Services include
- 1) outreach,
- 2) establishing a tracking system for each client,
- 3) collecting, storing and
distributing fresh local produce,
- 4) producing and disseminating educational
material on nutrition and food security,
- 5) making locally grown produce from
community supported agricultural programs more available, and
- 6) recruiting
farmers to participate in new community supported agriculture programs, to
improve the nutrition of low-income seniors.
Services are provided in the counties
of Hawaii and Kauai by the following agency:
13. The Emergency Food Assistance Program: Under the Emergency Food Assistance
Program (TEFAP), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) makes available
to states commodities for low-income persons and households to improve food
security, alleviate hunger, and improve nutrition. Services include the pick-up,
storage, and transportation of USDA commodities in Hawaii to the following
distributing agencies:
- Island of Hawaii
- Maui
- Kauai
- Oahu
14. Weatherization Assistance Program Services for Low-Income
Persons: Through
a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, low-income elderly, persons with
disabilities, individuals and families are provided with energy saving devices
for their dwellings to obtain cost savings through a reduction in energy consumption.
Services include
- 1) outreach and screening,
- 2) application assistance,
- 3) installation
of energy saving devices, and energy conservation education.
Services are provided
in the counties of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, and Honolulu by the following agencies:
15. Community Services Block Grant: The federal Community Services Block Grant
(CSBG) to Hawaii provides a broad array of services aimed at ameliorating the
causes and conditions of poverty, revitalizing low-income communities, and
empowering economically disadvantaged individuals and families to attain self-sufficiency.
CSBG funds are designated for the following Community Action Agencies providing
services in the counties of Hawaii, Maui, Kauai, and Honolulu:
16. Assistance to Persons with Disabilities: Services include protection and
advocacy for
- 1) individuals with developmental disabilities,
- 2) individuals
with mental illness,
- 3) individual rights,
- 4) individuals in need of assistive
technology,
- 5) beneficiaries of social security,
- 6) individuals with traumatic
brain injury, and
- 7) voter access.
Services are provided statewide through
the following agency:
17. Faith-Based Community Initiative: Services include various programs that address some of the toughest problems from addiction and prisoner recidivism to homelessness and HIV/AIDS. Click here to visit the national FBCI website.
