Volunteers
The
Hoosier National Forest welcomes efforts from individuals and groups that wish to
assist in the stewardship of their public lands. Some Events are scheduled
which feature volunteer opportunities such as
Take Pride in America Day. Other
volunteer opportunities are listed below.
We can also arrange special programs such as internships, service projects, or work days
for your group. Just give us a call at either of our offices!
ADOPT- A -TRAIL
Groups
and individuals are needed to "adopt" specific trails to maintain. As an Adopt -
A-Trail volunteer, you would be asked to hike and check your trail for maintenance needs
at least twice a year. Duties would include trash pickup, cleaning out waterbars,
sign maintenance, and monitoring trail conditions. For projects north of
Paoli, IN contact Dave Morris at 812-277-3585. For projects south of Paoli
contact Nancy Myers at 812-547-9241.
CHALLENGE COST SHARE
Groups
or organizations are needed to sign up with the Hoosier National Forest as partners on
Challenge Cost Share Agreements to provide labor, equipment and supplies for a variety of
projects such as trail work or wetland restoration. The type of project is up to the group
interested in helping. Contact Les Wadzinski at 812-275-5987.
