The Longitudinal Studies of Aging
(LSOAs) is a collaborative project of National Center for Health
Statistics (NCHS) and the National Institute on Aging (NIA). It is a
multicohort study of persons 70 years of age and over designed primarily
to measure changes in the health, functional status, living
arrangements, and health services utilization of two cohorts of
Americans as they move into and through the oldest ages.

The
1994-2002 LSOA II Linked Mortality File:
- contains information based upon the results
from a probabilistic match between the NCHS
National Death Index (NDI) records and obtained death
certificates.
- provides mortality follow-up data (fact, date, and cause of
death) from the date of LSOA II survey participation (1994-2000)
through December 31, 2002.
- includes all LSOA II participants aged 70 years of age and over.
