NIAID's Role in Food Allergy Research

NIAID is the nation’s principal supporter of food allergy research. Our broad support of basic research in allergy and immunology provides leadership in this field as scientists strive to better understand both the immune system and how certain foods trigger an allergic reaction. NIAID-funded researchers, in the US and abroad, are conducting clinical trials on managing allergy to cow’s milk and are carrying out innovative clinical trials attempting to harness the body’s innate immunity to combat peanut and egg allergies.
