U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige today issued the following statement regarding the Peace Corps' 42nd Anniversary:

"Today, thousands of former Peace Corps volunteers are celebrating the organization's 42nd anniversary by sharing their experiences with students across the country.

"At a time when we have witnessed the courage of countless American heroes, the members of the Peace Corps can be counted among them. Not only have they served this country and the world with their generosity and compassion, they continue to give of themselves in hopes of inspiring others to follow in their paths.

"I would like to congratulate the Peace Corps and its present and former volunteers on this special day and thank every one of them for their selfless dedication to country and individual. Today, may you inspire many American children to follow your lead and make a difference in the world."
