The National Home and Hospice Care Survey: 1992 Summary

A new report from the National Center for Health Statistics, The National Home and Hospice Care Survey: 1992 Summary, displays data on the characteristics of hospices and home health agencies in the United States, and the patients they serve. Summary information is provided through 61 tables on a number of specific topics. These include agency and demographic characteristics, utilization measures, and health and functional status of current patients and discharges. The tables on patients are grouped into four categories: home health care current patients, home health care discharges, hospice care current patients, and hospice care discharges.

The 1992 National Home and Hospice Care Survey (NHHCS) is a segment of the Long-term Care Component of the National Health Care Survey, a family of provider-based surveys that describe utilization of health-care services in the major ambulatory, hospital, and long-term care settings. Data collected for the 1992 NHHCS was the first in a series of annual surveys of home and hospice care agencies in the United States. The NHHCS is a probability survey that collects data from a nationally representative sample of 1,500 hospices and home health agencies. The survey is conducted through personal interviews with administrators and staff.
