State of Colorado

State: Colorado

Description:

An information packet, initially developed for public sector employers, is available to Colorado businesses from the State Personnel Department. The packet has been enhanced to include sample workplace substance abuse policies and a list of local EAP providers and drug testing facilities.

The Department offers technical assistance on policy development and implementation on a limited basis. If extended assistance is required, the department can help refer the business to appropriate private sector service providers.

All 63 Colorado counties have some level of community-based, publicly funded substance abuse services available. In sparsely populated rural areas most businesses are small. Since limited EAP services are available to them, many rely on the community- based alcohol and other drug treatment programs to provide education, early intervention and formal treatment when needed.

Listings of State licensed treatment and prevention programs are available from the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD) of the Colorado Department of Health. ADAD also serves as a clearinghouse of federal publications, posters and research information on alcohol and other drug prevention, intervention and treatment services.
