State: Alaska
Description:
The Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, in the Alaska Department of Health & Social Services, provides alcohol and other drug abuse prevention, treatment and outreach services through its grant-in-aid program. Substance abuse programs are available in every region of the State. The outreach services of these regional centers extend to private sector employers and trade associations, as well as schools and youth groups. The centers provide information, education, outpatient counseling, detoxification, residential treatment, emergency care, and relapse prevention services. The State of Alaska distributes a free employer's guide to assist firms wishing to address workplace substance abuse. The guide highlights the problems associated with alcohol and other drug abuse, explains the Employee Assistance Program process, and includes sample written policies as well as lists of resources available in the State. This guide and other information relating to alcohol and other drug abuse issues are available through the Division of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and through three non-profit prevention organizations which serve as information clearinghouses for the State.
