The quality of BLS projections: a historical account

Broad trends in occupational employment have
been projected fairly accurately, but accuracy has not increased over time. This article
discusses the changes in procedures used to develop projections over the past 50 years and
presents data to see if the quality of the projections improved as the projection
procedures changed.
