U.S. Department of Labor Partners with National Federation of Independent Business to Promote Compliance Assistance

WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) signed an agreement today to work together to promote greater awareness of and compliance with DOL's employment laws among NFIB members.

The partnership represents the latest such agreement under the new Partnerships for Compliance Assistance Program (PCAP). As a partner, NFIB will help DOL educate NFIB members about compliance assistance resources available to assist them in fulfilling their responsibilities under federal employment laws that DOL administers.

“Partners like NFIB assist us in advancing our compliance assistance mission, which helps us protect the wages, health benefits, retirement security, safety and health of America's workforce,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao.

Examples of proposed partner activities include the distribution of DOL educational materials to NFIB members and the development of articles for NFIB's member publications, including the widely-distributed magazine, MyBusiness.

“NFIB is tremendously pleased to be partnering with the Labor Department,” said Dan Danner, NFIB's Senior Vice President, Public Policy. “Our members want to comply with the law, but many times don't know how to. As a first step, compliance assistance is much better than enforcement and we are glad that the Department of Labor understands this.”

NFIB is the nation's largest small-business advocacy group representing the consensus views of its 600,000 members in Washington, D.C. and all 50 state capitals.

DOL's Office of Compliance Assistance Policy (OCA) created PCAP to complement DOL's public outreach efforts and help protect the wages, benefits and safety of America 's workforce. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao established OCA as part of DOL's Compliance Assistance Initiative.
