Equal Employment Advisory Council and U.S. Department of
Labor Establish Partnership to Promote Awareness of Labor Laws
WASHINGTONThe U.S.
Department of Labor (DOL) and the Equal Employment Advisory Council (EEAC)
signed an agreement today to work together to promote greater awareness of and
compliance with DOLs employment laws among EEAC members.
The partnership was established through DOLs new Partnerships for
Compliance Assistance Program (PCAP). As a partner, EEAC will help DOL educate
EEAC members about compliance assistance resources available to assist them in
fulfilling their responsibilities under federal employment laws that DOL
administers.
This partnership will help us efficiently communicate valuable
information to a large number of employers and to Americas workers to
advance our goal of ensuring fair, safe and healthy work environments,
said U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao.
Examples of activities on which DOL and EEAC will collaborate include
the promotion of new compliance assistance tools and the distribution of
compliance assistance information through Web sites and other electronic media
and print publications. In addition, DOL and EEAC representatives will
distribute DOL compliance assistance materials and coordinate speaking
engagements at EEAC membership meetings, forums and training programs.
One of EEACs primary objectives is to facilitate the flow of
information between its members and the federal regulatory agencies on
practical approaches to complying with our nations employment laws,
said EEACs President Jeffrey A. Norris. Todays agreement
reflects EEACs and DOLs mutual commitment to accomplishing that
objective.
EEAC is the nations largest nonprofit association of employers
dedicated to the advancement of practical and effective programs to eliminate
workplace discrimination. Founded in 1976, EEACs membership includes more
than 330 of the nations largest private-sector companies.
DOLs Office of Compliance Assistance Policy (OCA) established PCAP
to complement DOLs public outreach efforts and help protect the wages,
health benefits, retirement security and safety and health of Americas
workforce. Secretary Chao established OCA as part of DOLs Compliance
Assistance Initiative launched in June of 2002.
