Forest Service Joins EPA’s Climate Leaders Program

As a part of its continued commitment to environmental improvement, the Forest Service announced its participation in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Climate Leaders program. By participating in Climate Leaders, the Forest Service pledges to reduce its corporate-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

“While meeting our greenhouse gas emissions reduction goal will be a challenge, we are pleased to join the other Climate Leaders in helping to reduce global climate change,” said Chief Gail Kimbell. “The Forest Service has identified seven business units to serve as its primary implementation sites and a team of on line officers and subject matter experts to develop the agency’s GHG inventory and improvement plan.”

Climate Leaders is an EPA industry-government partnership that works with companies to develop comprehensive climate change strategies. Partner companies commit to reducing their impact on the global environment by completing a corporate-wide inventory of their greenhouse gas emissions based on a quality management system, setting aggressive reduction goals, and annually reporting their progress to EPA. Through program participation, companies create a credible record of their accomplishments and receive EPA recognition as corporate environmental leaders.
