ABSTRACT

July 1998, Vol. 121, No. 7

Producer price highlights, 1997

William D. Thomas
Economist, Office of Prices and Living Conditions, Bureau of Labor Statistics

Producer Price Indexes for finished goods, finished energy goods, and foods all fell during 1997. The finished goods index declined for the first time in 11 years. Only the "core" index—for finished goods less food and energy—remained stable throughout the year. This article summarizes changes in Producer Price Indexes during 1997.
