Statistical needs in Eastern Europe

As the historically planned economies of Eastern Europe undertake the transition to the free market, the statistical agencies of these nations face enormous challenges. This article explores some of the immediate and longer term challenges facing the Eastern European statistical agencies, as outlined in the Conference on Economic Statistics for Economies in Transition: Eastern Europe in the 1990's held in Washington D.C. February 14-16, 1991.
