(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Jacobs Field in Cleveland, Ohio and Coors Field in Denver, Co. provided a memorable backdrop for hundreds of teenagers who came to the home of the Indians and Rockies this past week to hear a powerful message about the harmful consequences of steroids. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in conjunction with the Taylor Hooton Foundation and Major League Baseball’s strength and conditioning coaches held the first two in a series of Hoot’s ‘Chalk Talks’ aimed at getting the truth out about steroids. Over one-hundred teenagers and many of their parents took part in the two-hour program, which featured different rotating stations on and off the playing field. According to Don Hooton, whose son Taylor’s life was cut short by steroids, the program is a good mix of education and fun. The kids go to first base, where they hear about the dangers of steroids. Then, at second base the strength and conditioning coaches teach them about how through proper diet and exercise it's possible to achieve their goals without using illegal steroids. Then at third base, major league hitting and pitching coaches work on the fundamentals of baseball. Finally, DEA agents will talk to them in the stands and tell them about the criminal consequences that come with possessing anabolic steroids without a legitimate prescription.
