Prescribed Fire

[Picture] Prescribed burnThe Ouachita National Forest is a leader in the Prescribed Burning Program. Prescribed burning is used as a land management tool to reduce the amount of fuel --dead wood, ground litter such as needles and small twigs, and other material -- that has built up on the forest floor. This reduces the risk of high intensity catastrophic wildfire. More.

Aviation Management

[Picture] Air Attack plane.Use of aviation in fire management is steadily increasing. Wildfire air attack not only increases the speed of emergency response, but also can be safer, less expensive, and more effective than traditional ground-based response. Safe coordination of aviation resources is a critical job which must be accomplished with a high degree of cooperation with other agencies and private enterprises.More.
