The aim of the study was to determine knowledge and attitude regarding prevention and control of HIV/AIDS amoung selected college students in Madurai.200 youths of 4 colleges were chosen by simple random sampling. The studymade use of the true experimental approach, pretest, posttest control group design. The tool used for data collection were a knowledge questionnaire and an attitude scale. The analysis was based on inferential and descriptive statistics. The analysis revealed that in the experimental group the posttest knowledge scores were higher than their pretest scores(t = 8.9)and the posttest attitude scores was higher than pretest attitude scores. It was also seen that theposttest knowledge scores of the experimental group was higher than that of thecontrol group(t = 9.0)The posttest attitude scores of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group(t = 7.0).It showed a positive corelation existed between increasing knowledge and change in attitude.(r = 0.75)(All values significant at 0.001 level) Conclusion: Youths require intensive intervention.Even though the subject is introduced in their curricullum,no one teaches it because of the taboo, stigma attached to it.Colleges require special teams well equipped with modern methodologies of health education which will reach to the inner core.,thus enabling a success in prevention and control of HIV/AIDS.
