Profile: Crowley Trucking Inc. a subsidiary of Crowley Liner Services, Inc.

Jacksonville, Fla.

Number of employees:   72

Crowley’s regional trucking operation, Crowley Trucking, Inc., has 72 drivers operating 56 tractors out of three Crowley terminals in Pennsauken, NJ, Jacksonville, FL and Port Everglades, FL. Trucks operating from the Pennsauken terminal run routes in the Northeast from Maine to Virginia. The Jacksonville terminal operates in north Florida and southern Georgia while the Port Everglades terminal truckers operate in south Florida. The company operates with common carrier and contract authority.

Its parent company, Crowley Liner Services, Inc. provides shipping services with nearly 30 oceangoing barges and ships, and has more than 34,000 trailers and containers to serve shippers importing and exporting cargo between the United States, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba and Central America

Crowley’s primary emphasis is on reducing truck idling times. The company continually looks at ways to cut engine idling through driver awareness while investigating auxiliary power sources to keep drivers cool in the summer and warm in the winter when their engines are turned off. Crowley plans to achieve fuel and emission reductions by looking at various tires and how they are inflated.

The company will strongly encourage its trucking partners, with whom they contract for supplemental trucking services, to join the SmartWay program.

“Anything we can do to reduce emissions and conserve fuel will have a positive impact on our employees, customers, communities in which we do business, and the world in general. We felt it was important to take a leadership position on this issue and join the SmartWay Transport Partnership.”

Maureen Cunningham
Crowley’s vice president of operations in Jacksonville
