U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings today issued the following statement:

"Susan Aspey brought great energy, integrity and talent to the U.S. Department of Education. She was an enormously skilled press secretary whose hard work, responsiveness and straight-shooting style was appreciated by colleagues and reporters alike. Whether answering emails in the wee hours of the morning or accompanying me on school visits to the far corners of the country, she is a passionate and dedicated public servant. Susan is as fearless as she is selfless, volunteering last year to work on a short-term assignment at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. After more than three years at the Department, she now joins the Office of the Federal Coordinator for Gulf Coast Rebuilding. Although she'll be greatly missed, I can imagine no better match of talent to the task. I join my colleagues in thanking Susan for her loyal service and I wish her only the best."
