Use Your WaterSense to Conserve Water During the Drought
Much of the Southeastern region is experiencing moderate to exceptional drought conditions and, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the drought is expected to persist or even expand across the Southeast, Gulf Coast and the Southwest by the end of January. There are simple steps you can take today to help preserve water supplies. Look for the EPA's WaterSense label to identify water efficient products and check out these simple steps to save water, money and the environment.

Syngenta Crop Protection, Inc., And Syngenta Seeds, Inc. Agree to Pay More Than $280,000 For Violating Federal Pesticide Rules
(Atlanta, Ga. – September 8, 2008) Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the settlement of three separate administrative complaints totaling $284,050 in civil penalties with Syngenta Crop Protection, Inc., and Syngenta Seeds, Inc., for violations of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). EPA Region 4 consolidated the violations throughout the United States to emphasize the need for quality control in all aspects of pesticide production and distribution. Full Story
New $2 Million Grant Awarded to the University of Kentucky for Research on Nanoparticles and Human Health
(Atlanta, Ga. – August 20, 2008) Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the award of a $2 million grant to the University of Kentucky (UK) to investigate how the sizes and shapes of nanoparticles affect their ability to enter the brain. This is the largest EPA Science to Achieve Results (STAR) grant ever awarded to the University of Kentucky as well as the largest single grant ever awarded by EPA STAR for nanotechnology research. TDK Receives EPA Award for Reducing Its Metro Atlanta Manufacturing Facility’s Environmental Footprint
(ATLANTA – August 19, 2008) Today, EPA Regional Administrator Jimmy Palmer recognized TDK Components USA, Inc., as a recipient of the 2008 Performance Track Environmental Performance Award. TDK is one of two companies in the Southeast and just five nationwide to receive this award. TDK is also being recognized for their acceptance to the highest level of the Partnership for a Sustainable Georgia, an environmental leadership program for Georgia businesses. Full Story
Lafarge Aggregates SE Receives EPA Award for Environmental Excellence
(Atlanta, GA – August 14, 2008) Today, EPA Regional Administrator Jimmy Palmer recognized Lafarge Aggregates SE, Douglasville Quarry in Douglasville, Georgia as a recipient of the 2008 Performance Track Environmental Performance Award. U.S. EPA Awards Over $200K to Charleston County For Pollution Reductions
(ATLANTA – July 30, 2008) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today awarded $236,498 to the Charleston County Area, South Carolina Project Impact Partnership for their continuing work to reduce local air and water pollution. The award is part of EPA’s Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) program, a community-based, community-driven program that builds partnerships to help the public understand and reduce toxic risks from numerous sources. New Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Rule Effective May 27, 2008
On May 27, 2008, EPA’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Rule becomes effective. This new regulation contains DBE provisions affecting procurement actions under all EPA financial assistance agreements/grants awarded on or after May 27, 2008. EPA’s grant recipients, sub-recipients, and loan recipients (and the prime contractors of these three entities) are all subject to EPA’s DBE Rule and DBE Program requirements.
