OBJECTIVES: To compare the differential features of Kaposi's Sarcoma (KS) associated with AIDS between male and female. METHODS AND PATIENTS: We review 200 patients with KS associated with AIDS diagnosed in Madrid from 1984 to April 1992. 189 patients (94.5%) were male and 11 patients (4.5%) were female. Up to April 1992, 2349 men and 490 women AIDS cases have been registered in Madrid. RESULTS: Results are shown on the table: TABULAR DATA, SEE ABSTRACT VOLUME. CONCLUSIONS: KS occurs mostly among male. Skin, gastrointestinal tract and lung are more frequently affected in male than in female. At diagnosis of KS associated with AIDS, women have more severe impairment of cellular immunity.
