Health Statistics/Research
The
Prevention Research Centers Healthy Aging Research Network (PRC-HAN)
- Prevention Research Centers (PRC)
Are a network of academic centers, public health agencies, and community
partners conducting applied research and practice in chronic disease
prevention and control.
- Healthy Aging Research Network (PRC-HAN)*
Are one of four active networks within the Prevention Research Centers
working together to address a public health issue of particular
significance consisting of seven academic centers. The Healthy Aging
Research Network's mission is to better understand the determinants of healthy
aging in older adult populations; to identify interventions that promote
healthy aging; and to assist in translating research into sustainable
community-based programs throughout the nation.
The PRC-HAN, funded by the CDC Healthy Aging Program, was created in
2001 to help develop partnerships and create a research agenda that
promotes healthy aging. The nine universities that participate in the
network use their expertise in aging research to work together and
collaborate with their communities and other partners to develop and
implement health promotion interventions for older adults using a
socioecological framework involving the individual, organizational,
environmental, and policy levels. Key attributes of the network include
working in close partnerships with local communities; promoting the
translation and dissemination of findings to key stakeholders; enhancing
capacity through partnerships; and adopting policies
and programs by engaging policymakers, planners, and practitioners. The
network had a broad research agenda that addresses a number of
health-promoting skills and behaviors, as well as, disease and syndrome
topics. To date the PRC-HAN has been very active in
physical activity, depression, and cognition.
