(September 16, 2008) Washington, D.C. – Representatives from Childrens Hospital Los Angeles thanked Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) for her steadfast support and advocacy on behalf of Children’s Hospitals in the state. The group emphasized the need for Congress to support federal funding under the Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education program to train pediatricians and pediatric specialists at independent teaching children’s hospitals. The group also emphasized the importance of Proposition 3: the Children's Hospital Bond Act, which the congresswoman has endorsed. The bond measure would provide needed funds to help the Children's Hospitals build new hospital facilities, make facility upgrades, renovations and expansions to treat more children, as well as to purchase life-saving medical equipment. Established in 1901, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles provides medical and surgical care to nearly 93,000 seriously ill and injured children annually.
