(June 12, 2008) Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard welcomes Bell High School senior Navil Gomez of Maywood to our nation's capital as part of the U.S. House of Representatives Page Program. Navil is one of 72 students from throughout the country and one of four students from California participating in the prestigious three-week summer program that ends June 27. The congresswoman, who represents Bell and Maywood, nominated Navil for the program. In order to qualify for the nomination, page applicants must be in their junior year of high school, at least 16 years of age, and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average. As a congressional page, Navil rotates through a variety of assignments within the U.S. Capitol Building complex, including delivering letters, flags and other documents to Members' offices. While in Washington, D.C., Navil is living in the House Page Dormitory near the Capitol. During their meeting, the congresswoman praised the 17 year old for her academic and extracurricular achievements and encouraged her to pursue internship opportunities in college with organizations such as the National Association of Latino Elected Officials and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute. Navil is the daughter of Rosaura and David Gomez of Maywood.
