(April 22, 2008) Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) meets with Los Angeles County School Superintendent Darline Robles and members of the Board to discuss the county's federal legislative priorities. Working out of its main office on Imperial Highway in Downey, the Los Angeles County Office of Education is the largest regional education agency in the nation, serving nearly 1.7 million students in 80 kindergarten through 12 school districts. During the meeting, the educators thanked the congresswoman for her support of the Protecting the Medicaid Safety Net Act of 2008 (H.R. 5613), which puts a moratorium on a certain Medicaid provision that would adversely impact students who receive special education in Los Angeles County. The measure passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 349 to 62 on April 23.
