(March 19, 2008) East Los Angeles, CA – Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) convened a breakfast meeting with city council members and city managers from seven Southeast cities in the congresswoman’s district. The congresswoman brought the local officials together to discuss local and regional concerns that the congresswoman could work with them to address. The representatives raised several priority issues affecting their communities. They emphasized the need for concerted outreach efforts to ensure a complete count during the 2010 census. The congresswoman agreed that an inaccurate count would result in the underfunding of schools, public works, and social service programs in their communities. The officials also discussed the need for continued federal investment in infrastructure projects such as road and other transportation-related improvements. Other matters brought up by the representatives included: expanding access to health care; creating additional educational opportunities for residents; and improving the air quality in the region. City council members and city managers from Bell, Bellflower, Commerce, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Maywood and Vernon attended the gathering held at Tamayo Restaurant in East Los Angeles.
