(March 11, 2008) Washington, D.C. – For the second year in a row, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) honored Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) for her commitment to the Latino business community. The chamber’s proclamation recognizes the congresswoman for her “common bond and strong commitment to the growth of Hispanic entrepreneurship” and her active participation “in diversity initiatives that encourage increased opportunities for Hispanics in the area of business.” Pictured in the photo from left to right: Elizabeth Gallagher, Vice Chair, Board of Directors, USHCC; Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34); and David Lizárraga, Chairman of the USHCC Board of Directors. In addition to serving as USHCC’s Board Chairman, David Lizárraga is also the President and CEO of TELACU, a non-profit community development corporation in East Los Angeles based in the congresswoman's district. TELACU (The East Los Angeles Community Union) was founded in 1968 and is self-sustained by TELACU Industries, a for-profit family of companies which provides the economic means to fulfill TELACU's mission. Through its businesses, services and partnerships, TELACU creates opportunities to rebuild and enhance the communities it serves. TELACU's mission of providing greater opportunities continues to be realized through the creation of new jobs, responsive financial institutions, expanding businesses, quality affordable housing, and educational opportunities for young people and veterans. With assets in excess of $500 million, TELACU brings together the private and public sectors in profitable business ventures that fulfill TELACU's mission.
