(February 21, 2008) Downtown, Los Angeles – Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) pins the Purple Heart medal on Mr. Frank Sedillo of East Los Angeles for a gun-shot wound he sustained during WWII during a meeting at her district office. An 18-year-old Private First Class in the U.S. Army at the time, Mr. Sedillo parachuted into Germany with the 17th Airborne Division when he was shot by enemy troops on March 24, 1945. Mr. Sedillo, now 81, received his medal with the assistance of the congresswoman’s casework manager who sent an inquiry to the National Personnel Records Center requesting that Mr. Sedillo be awarded the Purple Heart which he had not claimed since being discharged. The second photo also pictures his wife, Josephine B. Sedillo (on left). In addition to assisting with obtaining past-due military medals, Congresswoman Roybal-Allard caseworkers are available to assist veterans who reside in the 34th Congressional District with a wide-range of issues involving federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, by calling (213) 628-9230.
