(January 25, 2008) Bell Gardens, CA – Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) tours a Payless Shoesource store in Bell Gardens and discusses pending legislation before Congress affecting the footwear industry with store managers and employees. The congresswoman explained that she is a co-sponsor of legislation called the Affordable Footwear Act of 2007 that would eliminate a certain tax on low-cost shoe imports. The issue is a concern to the company, which is owned by Collective Brands, Inc., the largest non-athletic footwear company in the western hemisphere.
