Whitman Mission to Burn Native Grasses
March 5, 2008

Superintendent Terry Darby announced that Whitman Mission National Historic Site is preparing to conduct a prescribed burn at the park between March 7 and March 30, 2008. Local U.S. Forest Service fire managers assisted with the planning and will conduct the burn at the park. Full story . . .

Whitman Ornament on White House Christmas Tree
December 3, 2007

The Whitman Mission National Historic Site ornament is prominently displayed on this year’s official White House Christmas Tree. The tree is the centerpiece of elaborate decorations celebrating the theme of “Holiday in the National Parks.” Local artist Darwin Turner was chosen to decorate the Whitman Mission ornament. Whitman Mission Wins Top Honors for Being "Green"
October 2006

This Fall Whitman Mission staff received several awards for their efforts to use environmentally sound practices at the park. These efforts included switching to B20 (biodiesel) fuel, installing a grid-tied solar generating system, and efforts to recycle and reduce waste. more . . .
