Center for Combustion Science & Engineering

The Region 6 Center for Combustion Science and Engineering (CCSE) is a team of multi-disciplined professionals who strive to provide quality technical expertise to agency and non-agency stakeholders. Optimal operations of combustion units can be achieved while ensuring local communities protection of human health and the environment.

The team's goal is to provide consistency in implementation of EPA's Combustion Strategy via contributions to national guidance development as well as peer review and work share agreements with the Region 6 States, who are delegated to implement federal programs (i.e., RCRA) and who may also have more stringent State environmental regulations. In addition, the CCSE team shares information and expertise gained from work within Region 6 with other EPA Regions and corresponding State Agencies, upon request and through training classes offered in Region 6.

Areas of expertise relating to hazardous waste combustion include sampling and analysis methodology evaluation and selection, data usability determinations, fate and transport of contaminants in the environment, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) mapping, air dispersion modeling, modeling for and evaluation of human health and ecological risks, and risk management strategy development.
