Set for July 18-20 in Enumclaw, 145th annual fair features loads of free family fun
With a great blend of traditional fair attractions, plus dozens of opportunities to learn more about sustainable living, the King County 4-H/FFA Agricultural Fair promises to be a fun event for the whole family. Admission is free, and there is no charge for parking.
With a theme of “Grow It, Show It, Know It,” this year’s fair is set for July 18-20 and will feature agricultural displays on topics such as sustainable farming, recycling and alternative fuels. More than 60 vendors will be on-hand to offer dozens of ideas on how people can “go green” at home and in the garden.
A kids’ activities area includes numerous popular free crafts, games and events, including the “Let’s Pretend Wild West Show.” There’s also the pedal-powered tractor pull for kids, plus free doll making. Don’t miss the nine-hole putt-putt golf course made entirely out of recycled items, not to mention the ever popular Cooks’ Racing Pigs.
FFA and 4-H groups will have numerous livestock and animals on display, including sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, cats, dogs, guide dogs, horses and cattle. Judged competitions include open class, dairy and beef, flowers, photography, quilts and more.
Other featured attractions include gardening expert and Enumclaw native Marianne Binetti, plus King County EcoConsumer Tom Watson, who will share his tips on making purchases that are right for your wallet and good for the environment.
Hot scones with fresh jam, hamburgers, roasted corn on the cob and ice cream anchor the traditional fair food, with popular alternatives such as fresh Mongolian grill, roasted sweet potatoes, lemonade and espresso also offered.
Vendors interested in participating in the 2008 King County 4-H/FFA Agricultural Fair should contact the Fair office at 206-296-8888.
King County transferred the property to the City of Enumclaw in 2007. More information about the 2008 King County is available at http://www.metrokc.gov/parks/fair/
