BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The U.S. Department of Labor today announced that its Wage and Hour Division has opened a new permanent office in Gulfport, Miss. The department’s former office in Biloxi, Miss., was heavily damaged during Hurricane Katrina. During the interim period, staff worked from a Gulfport trailer.

“The relocation to a permanent facility will enhance our ability to provide services to employers and employees working to clean up and rebuild the Mississippi and Alabama coastal region,” said Connie Klipsch, regional administrator for the agency in the Southeast.

The space in Gulfport is conveniently located directly off Highway 49 North and is adjacent to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security Workforce Investment Network Job Center.

The Wage and Hour Division has increased staffing along the Gulf Coast by hiring additional employees, rotating investigators from offices in other parts of the country, and implementing task forces of bilingual investigators to provide more enforcement support and boost compliance outreach activities in the region.
