U.S. Labor Department, South Carolina Nursery and Landscaping Association Sign Partnership Agreement

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The U.S. Labor Department and the South Carolina Nursery and Landscape Association signed a compliance assistance agreement today at a ceremony in Columbia. The purpose of the alliance is to educate employers about labor laws administered by the Wage and Hour Division.

“The majority of employers in the nursery and landscaping industry want to comply with our laws, but they need access to compliance information and assistance interpreting some laws,” said Scott Gear, district director for Wage and Hour in Columbia. “This partnership will provide employers with the assistance they need.”

In addition to providing technical assistance during association-sponsored conferences, seminars and training sessions, the Wage and Hour Division will designate employees to provide assistance to association members who request informal help in interpreting laws and regulations.

Among the federal labor laws administered by the Columbia Wage and Hour district office in South Carolina are the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act, the H-2A program under the Immigration and Nationality Act and certain provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

For additional information about the partnership, contact the Columbia District Office, Strom Thurmond Federal Building, 1835 Assembly St., Room 1072; phone (803) 765-5981.
