Janet Campbell Named District Director for Wage and Hour Division in Atlanta

ATLANTA -- The U.S. Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division has announced the selection of Janet Campbell, a Georgia native, to serve as the district director in Atlanta. Prior to her appointment, she served as the district director in Raleigh, N.C.

“Janet is a valuable member of the Wage and Hour team,” said John McKeon, regional administrator for the Wage and Hour Division’s Southeastern Region. “She brings her continued dedication to America’s workers with her in her new position.”

As district director, Campbell will administer the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, which sets minimum wage, overtime pay, record-keeping and youth employment standards; the Migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. Her appointment is effective Aug. 22.

Campbell began her career in 1971, with the department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 1978, she transferred to the Wage and Hour Division’s Charlotte office as an investigator, and later served as a senior investigator. In 1990, she was named assistant district director for the Atlanta office, and was named district director for the Raleigh office in December 2002.

She is the recipient of the department’s “Distinguished Career Service Award,” and has been recognized by the Federal Women’s Program and the Labor Department’s Regional Executive Committee, for her “outstanding service to America’s workers and volunteer work for the community.”

Campbell, a native of Midville, Ga., earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Fort Valley State University and is a past president of the DeKalb County Alumni chapter. She is an active community volunteer.

The Wage and Hour Division, a part of the Employment Standards Administration, also administers the Employee Polygraph Protection Act, several immigration law provisions and the Davis-Bacon and Service Contract acts, which govern federal contract prevailing wages.

The Atlanta district office is located in the Sam Nunn Atlanta Federal Center, Room 7M10, 61 Forsyth St., SW; phone: (404) 893-4600.
