Most National Forests and Grasslands are open, free of charge, for your use and enjoyment. Fees may be charged and permits required for some activities and locations. Business permittees, such as campground concessionaires and outfitter-guides, may provide services to public-land users.

The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass Program

America the Beautiful Passports

America the Beautiful Passports can provide either free entrance or a discount for certain recreation fees. There are three types of passports available:

  • Interagency Annual Pass—for the
general public, $80 (for reduced entrance fees to National Parks)
  • Senior Pass—for senior
citizens 62 and older, $10 (half price on all San Juan NF campground fees)
  • Access Pass—for
    blind or permanently
disabled individuals, free (half price on all San Juan NF campground fees)

The Interagency Pass replaces the National Parks Pass, Golden Eagle, Golden Age and Golden Access Passes. Existing valid passes will continue to be honored.
