Projects & Plans

Photo of Forest Service employees reviewing paperwork. Each National Forest and Grassland is governed by a management plan in accordance with the National Forest Management Act (NFMA). These plans set management, protection, and use goals and guidelines. Monitoring conditions on a Forest or Grassland ensures projects follow plan direction and determines effects that might require management change.

Lynx Amendment

The Forest Service is proposing to amend seven Forest plans in the southern Rockies to adopt conservation measures for Canada lynx, a threatened species.

Objections Process

Policies & Legislation

Local, regional, and national policies, agreements, and legislation guide our priorities and procedures. Many of our regulations are explained in the Code of Federal Regulations.

Projects are planned to meet objectives of special programs and policies, such as the following:

  • Payments to states
  • Roadless area conservation

Colorado Ditch Bill Easements

The Colorado Ditch Bill Act (Public Law 99-545) directs the USDA Forest Service to issue permanent easements across National Forest System lands to those who meet the criteria established in the Act.

Species Conservation Program

The program team is compiling information about terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, and associated plants and animals, to integrate into scientifically sound, efficient approaches to land management.

Projects

Check the forest and grassland web sites to find information on current and proposed projects for watershed restoration, habitat improvement, recreation sites, timber sales, roads, and more.

The Forest Service routinely requests public comment on projects that it proposes. Find out how to voice your opinions about our projects.
