As of Thursday, November 20, 2008:

Fire Danger is low for the higher elevations in the San Juan region.

Forest Service and BLM Christmas Tree permits are available at the following locations: San Juan Public Lands Center and Kroegers Ace Hardware in Durango , Pagosa Ranger District and Bayfield Ranger District. Permits will be available beginning November 24th at Dolores Public Lands Office, Dolores Food Market and City Market in Cortez.

Prescribed burns may be underway in many areas of the San Juan National Forest. Call the local area office for more information.

The following campgrounds are open with NO SERVICES: House Creek, McPhee, Ferris, West Dolores, Bradfield, South Mineral, Sig Creek, Florida , Miller Creek, Transfer Park , Little Molas, Lower Hermosa , Pine River and Snowslide.

Be Bear Aware . Keep your food and trash away from bears and other critters.

The Mancos-Cortez Travel map for the San Juan National Forest is available at the Dolores Public Lands Office, located at 29211 Highway 184, just outside Dolores.

Forest Service and BLM Fuelwood Permits are available at the following locations: San Juan Public Lands Center and Kroegers Ace Hardware in Durango Pagosa Ranger District and Bayfield Ranger District Dolores Public Lands Office, Dolores Food Market and Dolores Visitor Center in Dolores City Market in Cortez. 2008 Fuelwood permits expire on December 31, 2008.

Many San Juan Public Lands roads will be closing for the season or may already be closed. Please use caution and be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Off Highway Vehicles, ATV's, motorcycles and snowmobiles must have a Colorado State registration for use on public lands in Colorado . Registrations are available thru Colorado State Parks, most off highway vehicle dealers, the San Juan Public Lands Center and the Bayfield Ranger District.

Trail conditions: Weminuche Wilderness-Elk Creek Trail is impassable by stock. Vallecito Creek bridge is out 6 miles north of the trailhead. The stream crossing is difficult. The Needleton Bridge has been removed and is closed. For more information call 970-247-4874.
