Zoster vaccine reconstitution. We stated in the Storage & Handling segment of Session I (January 25) that zoster vaccine should be reconstituted only with the diluent supplied with it. We based this statement on the assumption that the volume of diluent for zoster vaccine was larger than that for Merck's other live viral vaccines. Merck has since informed us that the volume of diluent for zoster vaccine is the same as that for MMR, Varivax, and MMRV. Therefore, the diluents for these four vaccines are interchangeable. (2/5/07)

Alternative Twinrix schedule. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Twinrix® [Hepatitis A Vaccine (Inactivated) and Hepatitis B (Recombinant) Vaccine], for an accelerated dosing schedule that consists of three doses given within three weeks followed by a booster dose at 12 months. The approval means Twinrix is now available on a dosing schedule at 0, 7, 21-30 days, followed by a booster dose at 12 months. The vaccine was first approved for adults over age 18 years by the FDA in May 2001 on a 0, 1, 6-month dosing schedule. NOTE: The 4-day grace period for minimum intervals does not apply to this schedule. (4/3/07)
