The Reno Forecast Office (WFO RENO) is a field
office of the National Weather Service (NWS) located in Reno, Nevada. The NWS
is an agency of the National Oceanic Atmospheric and Administration
(NOAA) under the United States Department of Commerce.
The mission of WFO RENO is to:
- Provide weather, hydrological and climate forecasts and warnings
for
western Nevada and the eastern Sierra for the protection of life
and
property.
- Provide meteorological and hydrological data and forecast information
to
our partners and users in the public and private sectors.
- Data and products from WFO Reno are part of a national information
database
and infrastructure which can be used by other goverment agencies
, the private
sector and general public.
The NWS Forecast Offices have four basic functions:
- Continuous hydrometeorological data assimilation, modeling,
analysis
and forecast preparation.
- Coordinations with adjacent forecast offices and national centers
to
provide seamless and credible products.
- Technical support and interaction with other agencies and users
involved
in the protection of life and property.
- Applied research, development and technological implementation
to facilitate and support the above functions.
