DISABILITY RIGHTS AWARD PRESENTED TO RAMSTAD

WASHINGTON – The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) presented its 2006 “Justice for All-Disability Rights Award” to U.S. Rep. Jim Ramstad (MN-03).

Ramstad received the award from Association President Andy Imparato, who called Ramstad “a long-time champion for people with disabilities.”

According to President Imparato, the Association selected Rep. Ramstad for this annual award because of Ramstad’s “extraordinary leadership in support of the economic and political empowerment of people with disabilities.”

Ramstad serves as co-chair of the House Disabilities Caucus and co-sponsored the “Ticket to Work” Act and full funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Ramstad is also a chief sponsor of the “Paul Wellstone Mental Health Equitable Treatment Act” and the “TREAT America Act,” which provides treatment parity for people with chemical addiction.

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this award from the American Association of People with Disabilities, and I will continue to work hard on behalf of all people with disabilities so they can enjoy the dignity of independent living,” said Ramstad.
