The Ellis Island brochure guides visitors through the museum exhibits at their own pace. Allow several hours to explore the museum. See a movie and learn about the island's history and our nation's immigration past by joining a ranger-guided tour. Venture through the many galleries contained in the main building or search through the database of immigrant manifests and discover your family's ancestry at the American Family Immigration History Center.
Did You Know?
Although Ellis Island is federal property and has always been historically considered in New York, a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in 1998 determined that part of the island was territory of New York while most of the island, which was added after 1834, is within the territory of New Jersey.
