The Alaska Peninsula area offers boundless recreational opportunities. Nearby national parks include Katmai National Park and Preserve, Alagnak Wild River, and Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve. The U.S Fish and Wildlife Service manages Becharof National Wildlife Refuge and the State of Alaska manages McNeil River State Game Sanctuary. To the northwest, Wood-Tikchik State Park is a favorite of rafters, kayakers, and wildlife viewers.

The towns of King Salmon and Iliamna have daily scheduled flights from Anchorage and if you'd like to take a road trip, Homer and Kenai/Soldotna are only a few hours away on the Sterling Highway.
