IDEA Formula Grants Ideas That Work

OSEP, through Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), provides formula grants to states to assist them in providing a free appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment for children with disabilities ages 3 through 21 (Part B, Sections 611 and 619). Also, OSEP, through the IDEA Part C formula grant program, assists States in providing early intervention services for infants and toddlers birth through age two and their families.

IDEA Discretionary Grants

OSEP, through Part D of IDEA provides discretionary grants to institutions of higher education and other non-profit organizations to support research, demonstrations, technical assistance and dissemination, technology, personnel development and parent-training and information centers.

Special Education Research Programs

Signed into law on December 3, 2004, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) authorized the establishment of the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER), along with the transfer of responsibilities for research in special education to the new Center. The Center is located within the Department's Education's Institute for Education Services. Information on current NCSER grant competitions can be found at the Center's web site.

IDEA Funding

The Department of Education State Allocation Tables by program and by state show recent and estimated allocations under formula-allocated and selected students aid programs. The OSERS FY 2007 Education Budget Summary provides program information and detailed budget tables showing the effect of the FY 2007 Budget on the OSERS programs and activities.
