Long Branch, NJ --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement in response to the New Jersey Supreme Court decision today saying that same-sex couples are entitled to the same financial and social benefits given to married heterosexual couples.
"I commend the New Jersey Supreme Court for choosing inclusion rather than discrimination in its decision today. It is simply not fair to deny some families and couples the same protections other couples are eligible for just because of their sexual orientation.
"Domestic partnerships simply do not go far enough, and that's why this decision today is so important. By expanding these important rights to include New Jersey gay couples, the State Supreme Court is strengthening same-sex relationships. I hope the legislature now passes legislation that defines a union between same-sex couples as marriage." |
