PALLONE INTRODUCES BILL HONORING BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & CELEBRATING THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF "BORN TO RUN"

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today introduced a resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives honoring Bruce Springsteen and celebrating the 30th Anniversary of his classic rock album "Born to Run."

In 1975, New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen released what would become one of the most famous and celebrated rock and roll albums of the 20th century-- "Born to Run."  The album solidified Springsteen's place in rock and roll history.  "Born To Run" reached number three on the musical charts and nearly two months after its release, Springsteen appeared on the covers of both Time and Newsweek during the same week.

"Today, I introduced a resolution that celebrates Bruce Springsteen, one of America's greatest rock and roll artists, on the anniversary of his masterpiece album 'Born to Run,'" Pallone said.  "Springsteen's lyrics evoke the struggles, hopes and Glory Days of blue-collar life in America.  'Born To Run' still stands as perhaps his best-known album, but it was just the beginning of a career that has spanned four decades and inspired millions."

Springsteen was born in Freehold, New Jersey on September 23, 1949.  When he was thirteen, Springsteen purchased a guitar at a pawn shop, which he learned to play, along with the piano and harmonica, himself.

During high school, Springsteen played at local bars in Asbury Park and throughout Monmouth County.  In 1972 he signed with Columbia Records, and one year later he released his first album "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J."  Twenty-seven years later, in 1999, Springsteen was inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame.

Pallone's legislation is similar to legislation that was introduced in the Senate by U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).
