Intern with Congressman Pallone
The Intern Program in Congressman Pallone's Washington, D.C. Office
is designed to enable you to learn about the inner workings of a Congressional
office. Each intern will gain knowledge concerning various issues that
are of interest to him/her as well as an overall picture of how Congress
operates.
The program is broken down into two segments. First, the intern learns
several tasks that orient him/her to the basic functions of our office.
Tasks include: reception work, Washington tour coordination with constituents,
learning the computer system, and other general functions important to
overall office operations.
The next segment will introduce the intern to various issues ranging
from environmental to senior citizen issues. Each intern will rank his/her
issue interest and will be matched accordingly with a Legislative Assistant
who handles such issues.
Interns may on many occasions be assigned to perform tasks and run errands
not at all related to their areas of interest. Some assignments will
be tedious and uninteresting, but interns are expected to undertake them
with a positive, cooperative attitude.
If the intern is trying to obtain credits with his/her educational institution,
this office is willing to cooperate with the school. Internships are
unpaid.
Internship slots in Congressman Pallone's two district
offices are also available, but on a less formalized
basis. These internships generally involve more constituent
service activities and are shaped by the needs of the
particular district office to which the intern is assigned.
