Waterfalls

These waterfalls are very beautiful; however, they are especially appealing during the spring when melting snow and frequent rain increases their water volume. This guide will help direct you to these waterfalls and will give you an idea of what you will encounter while visiting them. More waterall information.

Alger Falls:
Located 1 mile south of Munising where Hwy M-94 meets M-28. This waterfall cascades down 30 feet of rock and is easily seen along the east side of Hwy M-28.

Munising Falls:
This Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore waterfall is located in northeast Munising across from the city hospital. A short 1/4-mile round trip hike will take you from the interpretive center along the creek valley, and over foot-bridges to the base of the 50-foot waterfall,. Winter's cold weather often transforms this waterfall into a spectacular column of ice.

Wagner Falls:
Located about 1.5 miles south of Munising on Hwy M-94, toward the town of Chatham. A short trail will lead you up the Wagner Creek Valley, to the falls. These falls are actually a series of small falls and cascades that stretch for about 100 feet. The short hike here, combined with the picturesque beauty of these falls, makes this a perfect stretching place for the road weary traveler.

AuTrain Falls:
Located just off the Forest Lake Road, either 8 miles south of AuTrain or 1/10 mile north of M-94 on Power Dam Road. These falls consist of a series of small steps and cascades that drop about 50 feet within a 200-foot stretch. The beauty here lies not only in the falls, but also in the rapids below the falls. The parking lot is located within sound distance , less than 100 yards, from the roaring water.

Miners Falls:
Located within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, about 3.5 miles north of H-58, on Miners Castle Road. A 1.2 mile round trip will take you to the falls. From here you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the falls flowing down the basin.

Rock River Falls:
Located within the Hiawatha National Forest approximately 5 miles northwest of Chatham. This waterfall drops over a sandstone ledge into a pool 20 feet below. At the edges of the river canyon below sit sandstone outcrops that have been worked by water and weather until caves 10-20 feet deep have formed. Beautiful ice curtains hang from the cave roofs in the winter. These falls are located within Rock River Wilderness area, therefore, no wheeled or motorized vehicles are allowed.

Scott Falls:
Located on the south side of M-28, at the east side of Lake Superior's AuTrain Bay. Travelers along M-28 can easily see the 20-foot waterfall from the highway. Wayside Park, located directly across the highway from the falls, provides safe and easy parking for those who would like to stop and take a picture.

Chapel Falls:
Located within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, about 20 miles east of Munising off H-58, at the end of the Chapel Road. A 3 mile round trip hike takes you to this 90 foot fall cascading down the sandstone cliff. There are also beautiful views of Chapel Lake from the falls overlook.

Laughing Whitefish Falls:
Located 2 miles north of the town of Sundell and M-94, about 28 miles west of Munising. A 20 minute walk takes you to a fantastic 100 foot waterfall with many observation points.
